Wow....long time no post. I've been so busy that I havent had time to think about posting. Well thats a lame excuse. lol. Lets see recap of the past months........

August:
School started and I had my first day in high school at Sachse High School. Every day I had marching practice from 3:30-5:15. It actually wasn't as bad as it normally is.....usually in Texas its hotter than hell down here in summer. But we still sweat like crazy and drink water like theres no tomorrow. Our first 5A Varsity game was o.k......we actually won but it really didn't matter beacuse it was out of district. Our band had our opener done which was good while the other band had their whole show done.

September:
School started to get intense along with band...Mr. Goodwin started to yell at us and get frusturated. We still had to hold horns for about 10 minutes after rehearsal. Football games were good we kept putting new parts of the show on the field. It was still hot but not boiling which is wild for Texas....everybody was loving the weather! We were thanking the marching band gods for giving us temps. less than 90 degrees.

October:
We finally finished our show of "X marks the spot" a week before our first marching competition. The next Saturday we had to go to Carrollton for a very competitive marching competion. We made it to finals and placed 7th which was awesome for us because Mr. Goodwin said that after the finals performance we deserved 10th place. Then the next week we had DeSoto Classic and took home everything to be had....trophies, best in class, etc.

We pretty much took the breath out of everybody....we were the only marching band out of 7 or8 high schools to get a standing ovation all night. So we were feeling big and bad until the day of UIL. That was the day that hardly anyone talked. We were all REALLY nervous because this was one of the years that we could go to state. We were one of the first people to perform so if we wanted to make area we woukd have to do excellent. We got off the field and Mr. Goodwin gave us his evaluation as always after a field performance...."It was one of the best performances ever." We were sooooo happy. It just so happens that we were chosen to go to area competition the next week which was great.

Area:
we arrived at area as the underdogs and just happy to be there since it was our first ever 5A Varsity band and first ever graduating class. The judges decided to do it as a prelims/finals competition. So we went oout and performed our show and the directors liked it which was an excellent plus. That performance got us to finals. We left naaman (another school in our distict) in the dust. Also we were advancing with Rowlet (our rivals). So we played our show and the seniors were crying and everybody was sad because that could be our last performance. Mr. Goodwin said that if everything else went wrong he was proud of us and that we achieved his goal...which was to go to area and get into finals. It happened that we didn't go to state. :(...everybody was sad. Worst of all Rowlet went. Oh well...we did our best and pleased our band director.

Now marching band is ending and everyone is sad, but hey we achieved more than we thought we could acomplish this year. This experience has been a great one for me because I have made friends that I will never forget and learned new things about myself.
